My Self Reflection

In LSC1503 Communication Skills, I learned about TED Talk for the first time and how it deals with the problems that are around the world. What we did in TED Talk was to summarize these videos or shows into a few words between 120-150 words and make an audio link talking about it vocally. Secondly, we were introduced to the PSA (Public Service Announcement) and it is almost as similar a TED Talk, but it is only a few seconds long.

In the third exercise, we did a C.V writing and an interview which was about me applying to a job and at the same time it was about me asking questions. So I was the interviewee and the interviewed person at the same time. Then we did the Poverty presentation and it was about picking a country and doing a power point about it. The power point was called Pecha Kucha.

I will apply these skills in my future work environment by focusing mostly on the Presentation. Pecha Kucha was a great example of how to do a proper power point. A power point that will not bore the people that are listening to me. In the C.V Writing, I was able to make a C.V that will help me get accepted in a job I want to apply to. Those two will be useful in the work environment. TED Talk was a good example to help you summarize vocal conversations and taking the main points out of it and keep it short. PSA (Public Service Announcement) was also helpful in giving an advice to the public to avoid using or taking any sort of objects that would cause them problems.

3
If you're reading this listing you're in the top 30% of
the world's population when it comes to poverty and wealth

2
With new technologies we now grow enough food to feed 10 bil people- one-and-a-half times the world's population
The problem is that most in the world can't afford to buy that food

1
If the world spent less than 1% of what it spends on
weapons all the previously mentioned issues will be fixed

Exercise 2 - Air Pollution

Name: Mohamed Hasan Alotaiba
ID: H00281039
Section: CPM
Topic: Air Pollution
Word count: 104
Audio File time: 44 Seconds

Machines, Trucks and Factories are the main source of life in the modern world right now. Without that, technology would come to an end. It has disadvantages on our bodies; air pollution can cause many health damages on us and on every living being. Being able to prevent that from happening, cities should take their factories and machines away from the populated places in our world and immigrating to places that are fit for such heavy machine activities. Air pollution doesn’t only cause health problems but it also can cause our food to turn into poison. Take the factories far away. Stop air Pollution.

Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you

1

TED TALKS - ORAL & WRITTEN SUMMARY ASSESSMENT RUBRICS

Name & ID: Mohamed Hasan Alotaiba H00281039

Section: CPM

TED Topic: Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you

Original TED Talk:  12:02  minutes

Summary: 1:11 minutes (Should be 1-2 minutes)

-          10,000 people around the world google ‘’am I ugly?’’ Or post videos asking if they’re ugly.
2-      They lower their standards just to impress others and to force themselves to fit in the society.
3-      If you weren’t  thin enough your average grades are lower than usual.
4-      The pressure of wanting to lose weight fast causes damage on our physical health.
5-      To fix the problems, educate for body confidence.
6-      Family friends and relationships  along with media, teasing , comparing the looks and bullying are also an influence.
7-      Work together to change the way we see ourselves.

Around 10,000 people in the world Google or YouTube ‘’Am I ugly?’’ and it is because people around them in the society tell them that they’re ugly even though their parents call them beautiful. Boys and girls lower their standards just to impress others and to force themselves into a hole they will never get out of easily just to fit into the society.

Moreover, weight is also a reason for the people to have lower grades because they are worried about how they look more than their studies and it is because of the people around them. They try to lose weight fast by doing surgeries or other ways just to feel good about them regardless of how that might cause some problems in the future.

They need to focus on educating to gain confidence and work as a team and try to prove themselves without taking any risks and show that they can fit in despite what people can say. Family and friends have a big influence on how the child will grow as well as school which recently has got many teasing and bullying going on which makes them feel unconfident and start skipping school and then dropping out.
